D8 BOYS BASKETBALL: Finals are set for action on Friday

WATERLOO REGION (February 19, 2015) – After an emphatic 30 point semifinal win over St. David’s on Wednesday night, St. Mary’s High School will look to defend their D8 title on home soil this Friday.

St. Mary’s was led by Tyrick Thompson who tallied 13 points while Nathan Riley added 12. Celtic’s Mason Cumming contributed 16 points.

St. Benedict’s senior team held a steady lead over Resurrection on their side of the bracket resulting in a 64-45 victory.

Saint’s Zubair Seyed went off for 30 points while teammate Alex Douglas scored 19. Muyang Iluya tallied 14 for the Resurrection Phoenix.

The winner of the D8 Championship between St. Mary’s and St. Benedict’s must play a quad-A CWOSSA qualification game on Tuesday February 24th at John F Ross of Guelph.

The senior boys championship is set for 8:00pm this Friday evening at St. Mary’s High School.

The junior final precedes the senior matchup at 6:00pm between the favoured St. David’s Celtics and St. Mary’s.

St. David’s earned their berth into the final with a win over Resurrection 62-47 while St. Mary’s edged out St. Benedict’s 64-44.

The D8 midget boys final will take place at 4:00pm between St. Benedict’s and either St. David’s or Resurrection.

Admission to the D8 Final will be $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students.
