Resurrection, Monsignor Doyle advance to District Field Hockey Championship

KITCHENER, Ont. (October 21, 2013) – The Resurrection Phoenix and Monsignor Doyle Mustangs will meet for the second consecutive season in the District 8 Field Hockey Championship after winning their semifinal games this afternoon.

The four-time defending champion Phoenix easily disposed of St. David with a 5-0 win in their semifinal match.  Danielle Buttenger scored twice to lead Resurrection while sister Emily added another goal.  Also scoring were Tatum Dietric and Katherine MacMillan.  Kellee Snider registered the shutout.

Third seeded Monsignor Doyle upset the second seeded St. Mary’s Eagles 2-0 in their semifinal game hosted by Resurrection.  Isabel Johnston recorded the shutout for the Mustangs while Hanna Johnston and Kelsey Deutschman scored in the win.

This is the second consecutive season Resurrection will face Monsignor Doyle with the Phoenix topping the Mustangs last season for their fourth consecutive title.  The Phoenix are aiming for their fifth straight D8 title and their eighth in nine years.

The District 8 Field Hockey Championship is slated for Wednesday, October 23 at St. David CSS Field.  Game time is set for  6:00pm under the lights.
