WATERLOO REGION (December 6, 2018) – With many St. Jerome’s alumni looking on at halftime of the senior boys championship football game earlier last month, the Father Mike Award was announced and awarded to its first ever recipient, St. David’s Braydan Schneider.
Schneider switched between linebacker and cornerback this season where he tallied six interceptions and played slot back in the D8 Championship game where he caught a touchdown.
The Celtics are also represented by first team all-star selections Tyresse Griffith and Tyson Hergott. Griffith, a grade 12 running back scored nine touchdowns on the season while Hergott was a two way player flipping between linebacker and offensive line for the season.
Resurrection was able to sneak past St. David’s in the D8 final; later ending their season in a tough CWOSSA Championship loss to Jacob Hespeler.
The Phoenix had incredible efforts from their four first team all-star selections who all played both ways. Jaxon Matcheski played defensive back and scored three touchdowns in the D8 season including one in the championship game playing tight end. Teammate Jared Weiler was also named as a first team all-star playing both tight end and defensive back.
Braeden Barry and Cameron Bulai from Resurrection were pillars of the offensive line and flipped to defence when needed.
St. Mary’s quarterback Andrew Brush received a Father Mike Award nomination for his outstanding performance this year, which included some outstanding offensive plays leading to seven passing touchdowns and another eight rushing touchdowns.
Grade 12 defensive back Zyvian Daugherty and grade 12 wide receiver and defensive back combo Connor Proeschel join Bush as first team all-star selections for the Eagles.
St. Benedict’s is represented on the first team by wide receiver Dylan Cordeiro and offensive lineman John Snyder.
