WATERLOO REGION (April 15, 2020) – On Thursday District 8 announced Abby White as the most valuable player in the girls hockey league.

White led the league in scoring with 14 goals, including four multi goal games, two of which she scored a hat trick and a five goal game in the Celtic’s semi-final win.

As captain, White and fellow first team all-star, grade 9 goaltender Meghan Stewart helped St David’s capture their third straight District 8 Championship. The Celtics would go on to lose a close 1-0 overtime decision in the A/AA CWOSSA Championship game, which qualified them to defend their 2019 OFSAA title. Unfortunately, the 2020 OFSAA Championship was sadly cancelled due to school closures.

As a grade nine, Stewart tallied two shutouts in her first District 8 season, including in their District 8 final win over Resurrection. Stewart had two more shutouts at the CWOSSA tournament and almost had a third, allowing a 3 on 3 goal in the gold final.

Grade 11 Hallie Murray and grade 9 Halle Murray were named as second team all-stars for the Celtics.

Resurrection’s grade 11 Emily Hussey and grade 10 Hailey Terpstra were named as first team all-stars. Terpstra scored three goals in District 8 play while Hussey added one.

A pair of Phoenix forwards, grade 11 Avery Davis and grade 10 Aiko Prpic, were named to the second team.

Grade 12 forward Lane Yuke from St. Mary’s was named as a first team all-star with five goals in the season, while teammate Gillian Rovers was named to the second team.

Monsignor Doyle made a return to the District 8 league after a two year absence, and had a very respectable season led by grade 10 first team all-star Riley Crego and grade 9 second team all-star Chloe Gregory.
