SOCCER: Vyrostko named top player in District 8 boys senior soccer

WATERLOO REGION (June 24, 2014) – Ryan Vyrostko of Resurrection Catholic Secondary School earned most valuable player honours as District 8 announced its 2013-14 senior boys soccer all-star team on Tuesday. Vyrostko recorded three goals in the 2014 campaign for Resurrection including one in the District 8 final which helped the Phoenix claim a 4-1 victory over the St. Mary’s Eagles. The championship was Resurrection’s 12th in league history and their second in three seasons. Joining Vyrostko on the all-star squad were Phonix teammates Arman Boroumand and Jay Gomes. St. Mary’s and Monsignor Doyle who both finished with 5-1 regular season records added two players apiece to the all-star team. St. Mary’s representatives were Frank Capriglione and Nick Okot while Monsignor Doyle was represented by Tyler Martin and Justin Ulhorn. St. David’s Oleh Sydorczak, who earlier this year represented District 8 at the OFSAA Tennis championship, was the Celtics’ lone representative on the team. Other standouts from across the league include: Caleb Menill (Père-René-de-Galinée), Shamar Santos (St. Benedict CSS) and Tristan Vanderhoef (Woodland CHS).
