WATERLOO REGION (November 26, 2015) – Resurrection’s Krissia Vasquez is named the most valuable player for the 2015-2016 District 8 senior girls basketball league.
Vasquez was an outright floor general for Resurrection in a season that saw them capture the D8 championship in convincing fashion. Her backcourt teammate Meghan Sharp was also named to the first team, while teammates Jama Bin-Edward and Britney Houghton were named as second team all-stars.
St. Mary’s, who captured the D8 silver medal, is represented on the first team by grade 10 guard Summer Pahl. Pahl’s teammates’, point guard Brittany Gulic and center Lexi Stoyakovich were recognized with second team honours.
Last year’s MVP Afifa Salad was again announced as a first team all-star, while her teammate Laura Ivits was named to the second team.
Grade 12 guard Megan Goer of St. David’s was also selected to the senior first team.
Not unlike the seniors, the Resurrection junior girls basketball team threw up some impressive numbers finishing the District 8 season undefeated. As such, Sydney Guker-Wickie, Delina Romano and Buse Bin-Edward were all named as first team all-stars.
St. David’s junior squad was represented by grade 10 guard Emily White who was credited with first team honours while Hannah Blair was recognized as a second team all-star.
Sydney Vanderhoef from Woodland was also named to the first team and her teammate Alanna Parker was a second team selection.
Nana-Afia Agyeipal (St. Benedict’s), Makenna Gomes (St. Mary’s) and Katrina Dyck Steinmann (Rockway) were all named to the junior second team.
