GIRLS RUGBY: The Resurrection Phoenix are the champions

WATERLOO REGION (May 17, 2016) – Resurrection was crowned district 8 girls rugby champions after our dominating performance in the final against St. Mary’s, winning by a score of 31 – 0.

The championship clinching victory was a result of a strong team effort with tries coming from Hayley Broadfoot, Hannah Scharlach, Armelle Folefack, Britney Haughton (2), and three conversion kicks made by Bianca Allain.

The Phoenix‘s glory came after a great hard-working season that saw them finish first and then dominate in the playoffs after getting a bye in the semi-finals.  The several injuries sustained throughout the regular season did not stop Resurrection on their way to the championship, as they were able to persevere and achieve the honor of being the best team in District 8.

The Eagles also had a very strong season and competed hard to get to the championship game, but they could not quite get it rolling in the final as Resurrection stymied their advances. The competitive nature of girls’ rugby was extremely evident all the way through the season as even though the score was not close, the game was competitive until the end.;
