WATERLOO REGION (May 18, 2016) – Wednesday, May 18th is a big day in District 8 sports as there are three different championship games; girls’ varsity soccer, senior boys’ soccer and senior boys’ rugby.

The first final of the day is senior boys’ soccer and it features St. Benedict’s versus St. Mary’s for the championship. Both teams were seen as underdogs entering the playoffs as they finished third and fourth respectively in the District 8 division, but really played well in their playoff games and now find themselves preparing to win a championship. Game time is set at 4:00 PM at St. David’s.

The second is the senior boy’s rugby final which is between Resurrection and St. Mary’s. St. Mary’s had their greatest season in school history as they never lost a game in the regular season or playoffs so far and have shut several teams out. There’s no doubt that Resurrection is the underdog as they advanced due to Rockway’s forfeit, but they have a strong team and anything could happen. The game starts at 4:30 PM with St. Mary’s hosting.

The last final of the day is the girls’ soccer final between Resurrection and St. Mary’s. Both of these teams had strong regular seasons with St. Mary’s finishing first in the District 8 division, and Resurrection finishing second only two points behind. With these two teams being so evenly matched it should make for an exciting final, which starts at 6:00 PM at St. David’s.
