LACROSSE: Resurrection wins first ever D8 lacrosse title

WATERLOO REGION (May 15, 2017) – On Friday District 8 held its first ever lacrosse championships involving three schools from the Waterloo Catholic District School Board.

The tournament kicked off with St. David’s beating Resurrection in a hard fought opening match 14-10.

Resurrection would rebound with a win over St. Benedict’s in game two, 10-6.

The round robin would end with St. David’s beating the St. Benedict’s to set up a rematch between the Celtics and Phoenix in the final.

Resurrection would jump out to an early 4-0 lead forcing the Celtics’ coach to take an early timeout. The Phoenix however would keep the goals coming, at one point leading by as many as nine goals.

Celtics forwards would make a push in the fourth quarter but Resurrection would hold on to win the title with a score of 18-14.

Resurrection will host the OFSAA qualification event on May 18th where they will take on Owen Sound D.S.S. at 10:00am. St. Benedict’s will play Assumption College from Brantford at 11:30am and the winners of those two games will play to go to AAA OFSAA at 2:30pm.

St. David’s will host St. Mary’s from Owen Sound on Friday May 19th at 2:00pm in the A/AA OFSAA qualification match.
