WATERLOO REGION (December 7, 2017) – On Thursday, District 8 announced that St. David’s defensive back and wide receiver Colin Conant and St. Benedict’s quarterback Andrew Hoscroft were named the football league’s most valuable players.
Both players lead their teams to 5-1 regular season records and a championship appearance. In that final, it was Horscroft’s Saints narrowly defeating Conant’s Celtics 25-21.
Conant had an impressive campaign scoring eight touchdowns on the season include a single game where he scored a rushing TD, receiving TD and a defensive ‘pic-six’.
Horscroft scored 14 touchdowns in his season both passing and rushing including two rushing touchdowns in the D8 Championship.
Joining Horscroft as a first team nomination are his teammates and wide receiving core of Josh Nikolic and Nick Stainsby, as well as defensive back Josh Cumber. Nikolic and Stainsby combined for 13 receiving touchdowns in just eight games.
The Celtics were also represented by grade 12 cornerback Cole Schneider and grade 12 slot back Jahnei Powell.
Resurrection is represented on the first team by grade 12 wide receiver Jaxon Matcheski and the only two grade 11 players on the first team, defensive end London Dawson and offensive/defensive lineman Cameron Bulai.
Wide receiver Jody Brown Jr. from St. Mary’s was named to the first team for the second year in a row and he is joined by teammate Malex Cameron who played defensive back for the Eagles..
