VOLLEYBALL: Nolan Spencer selected as league’s most valuable player

WATERLOO REGION (December 8, 2017) – On Friday, District 8 Athletic Association announced its senior boys volleyball most valuable player would be St. David’s grade 12 left side attacker Nolan Spencer.

Spencer led the Celtics to their school’s first championship in 25 years; only one year after the team didn’t run due to a lack of players. The big swinger was the go-to attacker for the team whenever a point was needed.

Joining Spencer as a first team all-star is fellow Celtic Quinton Dowling who set and hit for the team when needed. St. David’s grade 11 libero Jacob Voisen was also named to the first team with teammate Ethan Keeso who was selected as a second team all-star.

After Woodland suffered the finals loss to St. David’s, they would go onto a CWOSSA ‘A’ Championship title led by their grade 12 District 8 first team selections Judah Verbeek and Jason Feenstra. Verbeek was one of the league’s best attacks from the left side, while Feenstra was one of the league’s most consistent setters. Fellow Cavalier Zach Vanderboor was named to the second team.

Rockway’s all-star first team setter James Carr-Pries led the Flames to the best record in the District 8 regular season, a CWOSSA silver medal, as well as an OFSAA consolation championship. Grade 12 left side hitter Kean Snider, and grade 11 middle Aaron Dyck were named to the second team for the Flames.

Rounding out the District 8 first team selection is St. Benedict’s setter E.J.  Enriquez who helped the Saints finish first in the District 8 south division.

Resurrection is represented on the second team by grade 10 left side Noah Lalonde while St. Mary’s is represented by grade 11 middle Ben Lassaline.
