WATERLOO REGION (March 25, 2019) – On Saturday night before the KW Titans last regular season home game of the season, the District 8 All-stars were recognized with Ben Mascarenhas receiving the league’s top honour.

Mascarenhas led the Saints to an 11-1 regular season record, and helped regained the District 8 senior boys title after scoring 14 points in the final. The grade 12 forward was a consistent scoring leader for the Saints scoring his season high against St. David’s scoring 32 of his team’s 64 points in the win.

Joining Mascarenhas as a first team all-star is teammate Raf Llorin who is the lone grade 11 to earn the honour. Grade 11 forward Trent Johnson from the Saints was named to the second team.

St. Mary’s Grade 12 guard Paolo Malacad came on late in the season leading the Eagles in scoring in their last three games of the season earning himself first team recognition. Teammate, and Indiana State baseball commit, Eric Martin was named as a second team all-star.

Mahier Mohammed makes his second appearance as a first team all-star in as many years representing the Resurrection Phoenix. Along with second team all-stars, Grade 11 guard Damien Nath and grade 12 forward Jaxon Matcheski, Resurrection finished with only one loss in the regular season before getting upset by St. Mary’s in the league semi-final.

Landon Atkinson rounds out first team all-star selections representing St. David’s. Atkinson scored 20 or more points in eight of his 13 District 8 appearances, scoring a season high 54 on December 12th.

Rockway’s James Torrance-Perks was named as a second team all-star. Torrance-Perks led the Flames to the best record in the tier two division and a CWOSSA single ‘A’ Championship where he scored 28 points in a 55-50 win over Waterford.
