WATERLOO REGION (December 4, 2019) – On Wednesday, District 8 announced the field hockey top honours would go to St. Mary’s Elyse Malleck.
The grade 12 midfielder helped lead the Eagles to their second straight District 8 title. Malleck scored two goals in her D8 campaign, and it was her leadership at the midfield position which earned her the MVP nod.
St. Mary’s primary goal scorer, grade 10 forward Gillian Rovers, was named as an all-star as she led the league with six goals in District 8 play and added two at CWOSSA.
Rovers teammate Lauren Mader was not far behind in scoring as she scored four goals and was named to the all-star list along with fellow grade 12 Eagles; midfielder Lane Yuke and Ella Koller on defence.
Resurrection collected District 8 and CWOSSA silver medals in 2019. The Phoenix leading scorer on the year was grade 11 forward Abby Kraemer who scored six goals in D8 action, and added another three at CWOSSA.
Kraemer’s line mate Emma Hillier was also named to the all-star team as she scored three goals during the D8 season and another two at CWOSSA. Phoenix midfielder Avery Davis was also named as an all-star with three goals on the season.
St. David’s grade 11 midfielder Erin Bauer and grade 10 defender Jordyn Mundell were also named as all-stars.
