WATERLOO REGION (February 13, 2020) – On Wednesday at RIM Park in Waterloo, it was a rubber match between St. David’s girls hockey and the Resurrection squad. The Phoenix won the first two District 8 titles in 2016 and 2017, and the Celtics won back-to-back in 2018 and 2019.

The opening period was back and forth play with a few scoring opportunities from both teams, but no one was able to find the back of the net.

Midway through the second period St. David’s Sarah Bestic sent in a slap shot from the point and Kamryn Szumlinski redirected the shot for the game’s opening goal.

Thirty seconds later on a very similar play, Erin Bauer shot a puck that was looking to go high, but Emma Bourque was able to get her stick on it and increased the Celtic’s lead to two.

Later in the second period, Resurrection was able to kill off a ninety second, five on three power play, but eventually Bestic was able to score the third and final goal of the game, sealing the win for the Celtics.

St. David’s will advance to the A/AA CWOSSA Championships March 9th and 10th in Waterloo Region while Resurrection will play in the triple-A CWOSSA Championships March 10th and 11th in Baden.
