Cambridge schools advance to senior semifinals

Basketball-Court-640x424WATERLOO REGION (February 10, 2014) – The St. Benedict Saints and the Monsignor Doyle Mustangs have advanced to the semifinals in senior basketball as they knocked off their quarter-final opponents on Monday.

The Saints earned a 42-27 win over No. 5 seeded St. David’s with  St. Benedict’s Jamal Hajo leading the charge pouring in 19 points.  In the other semifinal match, the Mustangs galloped past No. 6 Rockway 62-33.  Rockway’s Connor Huxman was the games top scorer posting 17 points while Monsignor Doyle spread around it’s offence with Tyler Saris dropping 13 points and Jamal Bell posting 12.

Semifinal Wednesday is set with the following senior match-ups:

  • No. 4 St. Benedict CSS @ No. 1 St. Mary’s HS – Wed.. Feb 12th – 2:00 pm
  • No. 3 Monsignor Doyle CSS @ No. 2 Resurrection CSS – Wed. Feb 12th; 3:30pm

In the junior quarter-final games Resurrection dumped Rockway 79-40 while St. David dusted Monsignor Doyle 70-40.

Those results set up the following semifinal games:

  • No. 4 St. David CSS @ No. 1 St. Mary’s HS – Wed.. Feb 12th; 3:30pm
  • No. 3. Resurrection @ No. 2 St. Benedict CSS – Wed. Feb 12th; 3:30pm

The District 8 Boys Basketball Championship goes on Friday, February 14.  The midget final will kick things off at 4:00pm followed by the junior championship at 6:00pm.  Both games will set the table for the senior championship which is slated for 8:00pm.  All games will be hosted by the highest remaining senior squad.
