VB-SR/JR-G: Woodland repeats as D8 senior champions

BRESLAU, Ont. (November 5, 2014) – With a boisterous home crowd behind them the Woodland Christian Cavaliers repeated as District 8 senior boys championship on Wednesday night edging Rockway in a five set thriller.

The Cavaliers dug deep with a packed house in their brand new gymnasium to come from behind to win with with set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-14, 15-3. Although Rockway held the advantage most of the game and throughout the final set, Woodland would battle back from a 12-10 deficit. They would go on to tie the game at 12 and then take the lead for good to finish the final set at 15-13.

The win is Woodland’s second in two seasons and gives them seven D8 senior boys titles in the past 10 years.

In the junior final, Rockway topped Resurrection 3-1 to claim their 11th District 8 junior boys volleyball championship in school history. Set scores for the game were 25-14, 23-25, 25-13, 25-23.

The win marks Rockway’s first D8 junior boys volleyball championship in eight seasons.

Woodland Christian High School opened a first class full double gym earlier this year and this was the schools first opportunity to host a District 8 championship.
