Eagles’ Alves named D8 mvp in girls rugby

WATERLOO REGION (June 19, 2014) – St. Mary’s Elizabete Alves earned most valuable player honours as District 8 announced its 2013-14 Girls Rugby All-Star team on Thursday

Alves was a key contributor as the Eagles landed on top of District 8 posting a perfect 8-0 record in league play and winning their second straight girls rugby title.  Alves was also a key component as the Eagles advance to CWOSSA earning a semifinal berth.

Alves was just one of five Eagles named to the all-star team.  She was joined by Sara Canini, Angel O’Connor, Makenna Edissi and Hayley Matius.

Second place Resurrection earned four nods to the all-star squad with Michelle Marko, Marlene Melo, Maria Paz Rodriguez and Kara Howitt claiming a selection.

Monsignor Doyle’s Fabiola Alvarez, Brooklyn Karges and Hannah Aitchison  along with St. David’s Rachel Hunchuk, Laura Runstedler and Cassie Mann rounded out the 15 person team.

The District 8 girls rugby all-star squad is selected annually by the league’s head coaches.
