SOC-JR-B: Eagles soar to back-to-back titles

WATERLOO, Ont. (October 24, 2014) – The St. Mary’s Eagles captured their second straight District 8 junior boys soccer championship on Friday as they dumped the Resurrection Phoenix 3-0 at St. David’s Field.

Ryan Amorim and Marko Mandekic provided the goals for St. Mary’s while Sami Moussa secured the shutout for the Eagles.

While the Eagles successfully defended their championship it also marked the 10th junior boys soccer title in the last 13 seasons for St. Mary’s.

The win marked the 12th time the Eagles have raised the District 8 crown in junior boys soccer since the league formed in 1990. It also puts them two ahead Resurrection in all-time wins with the PHoenix having won 10 to this point. The Eagles also have won 10 of the last 13 championships.

St. Mary’s now advances to the Central Western Ontario (CWOSSA) championship which is set for October 30 and 31 at the University of Guelph Soccer Complex in Guelph Ont. The Eagles have had success at the CWOSSA level having won six titles in the last 10 seasons with their last coming in 2009-10.
