WATERLOO REGION (June 22, 2022) – On Wednesday, District 8 announced that St. Mary’s High School’s Luca Romano was named the senior boys soccer most valuable player for the 2021-22 season.

Romano led the Eagles to an undefeated District 8 campaign, defending their title from the 2019 season. The grade 12 striker scored a season high 14 goals in eight games, scoring in every game including a hattrick in their regular season finale.

One of three St. Mary’s players who were named as repeat District 8 all-stars from the 2019 junior soccer season, Romano is joined by teammates Sal Curto and Diogo Pereira.

Curto scored six goals in the final five games of the District 8 season helping St. Mary’s secure a bid to the triple-A CWOSSA Championship.

Pereira and fellow all-star teammate Marko Lesic spent the season locking down the center of the pitch in the center back and center midfield positions respectively.

After sweeping through the CWOSSA Championship, the Eagles season ended with a 3-0 quarter-final loss to the eventual OFSAA Champions.

Ibrahem, a grade 12 center-midfielder also led the Mustangs to a double-A CWOSSA gold medal, winning 4-3 in penalty kicks.

Also returning as an all-star from the 2019 junior soccer season is St. Benedict’s grade 12 center-midfielder Dylyn Mun. Mun and his fellow teammate all-star Razen Emira marched the Saints to a second place regular season finish with a 4-1-1 record.

Emira, a grade 12 striker, led the Saints in scoring with eleven goals in seven games.

Resurrection’s center-midfielder Enrique Aguilar was the lone grade 11 named to the all-star team, while St. David’s also named a center midfield to the team, represented by grade 12 Simon Dell.

Benoît Larivière from Père-René-de-Galinée led les Chevaliers to a berth to single-A CWOSSA scoring four goals in District 8 action and two goals at CWOSSA.

Woodland’s grade 12 center back Gabe VanderHoef rounds out the all-star selection for the 2021-22 senior boys soccer season.
