WATERLOO REGION (October 14, 2021) – On an unseasonably warm day at Cambridge Golf Club, grade 11 Andreas Diogenous recorded a round of 62 to win the boys District 8 Golf Championship.

Diogenous shot two eagles on two par fives and seven birdies. His only blemish was a bogie on the 156 yard par 3, 9th hole.

The 62 shot round, along with St. Benedict’s teammates Matthew Whitehead (78), Peter Carnaige (81) and Connor Jupp (87) combined for a score of 308 which was good enough for the team gold. The Saints finished 33 shots ahead of Père-René-de-Galinée who finished in second.

Père-René-de-Galinée’s Xavier Bernier finished with the individual silver medal with a three over 75 while St. Mary’s Tobias Hofer shot a four over 76 for the bronze.

New District 8 member school École Secondaire David-Saint-Jacques joined the first championship in 18 months and collected a gold medal. Katelyn Xayavong shot a 101 representing Les Taureaux with the low girls round of the day.

St. Benedict’s Marianne Linsingan won the silver with a 107 while St. David’s Kaelyn Abbott and Claudia Siadaczka tied for bronze.

Abbot and Siadaczka also combined to win the girls team gold medal.
