WATERLOO REGION (April 11, 2014) – With spring in the air, District 8 Athletic Association released its 2013-14 spring sport schedules featuring senior boys soccer, girls soccer and girls rugby.

Soccer is the first sport to get underway with St. Benedict meeting St. Mary’s in simultaneous battle of girls and boys matches at Woodside Park on April 15th. Both games go at 1:00pm with the girls game being featured on Woodside #1 while the senior boys game will go on Woodside #2.

Later Resurrection will travel to St. David’s with the senior boys game starting at 2:45pm and the girls game capping opening day with a 4:15pm kickoff.

The District 8 girls rugby schedule kicks off on Thursday (April 17) with two games hosted at St. David CSS. Monsignor Doyle meet Resurrection in the opening game set for 3:30pm while St. Mary’s meets host St. David’s at 4:30pm. This year girls rugby features four squads with St. Mary’s entering play as the defending champion.

Seven teams will contend for the District 8 senior boys soccer title with league play consisting of a single round robin followed by three rounds of playoffs. Last year the Resurrection Phoenix defeated Monsignor Doyle to claim the D8 soccer crown.

The girls league will also feature seven teams but be broken into a two division tiered league. Resurrection, St. Benedict, St. Mary’s and St. David make up Division A, while Pere Rene de Galinee, Woodland and Monsignor Doyle make up Division B. Both tiers will play a home and home schedule followed by playoffs. All four Division A teams will qualify for the playoffs with the top two teams in Division B qualify.

The District 8 Championship for all three sports is set for Thursday, May 22nd at St. David CSS. Girls soccer will kick off the championship event with a 3:00pm start followed by a 5:00pm start for senior boys soccer. Girls rugby will get the late game with their championship going at 7:00pm.

Track & Field (District 8 / WCSSAA) has previously released its schedule leaving just Ultimate Frisbee the lone remaining schedule to be finalized. Ultimate, which is entering its second year as a demonstration sport at the District 8 level will consist of a single day championship event expected to be played in late May
