District 8 sweeps both ends of Boys Basketball All-Star game against D4/10

KITCHENER, Ont. (March 26, 2014) – District 8 won both ends of the junior and senior boys basketball All-Star game versus D4/D10 held Wednesday at Resurrection. The junior squad got things rolling first with a 86-74 win while the seniors capped the evening with a 77-67 win.

District 8 MVP Tesloth Simon was one of the top players in the showcase game as he hit five three-pointers on route to a game high 18 points to lead the senior squad. Resurrection’s Patric McGlynn contributed 16 points in the win and was named the game MVP for District 8.

District 8 took a 19-13 lead in the first quarter, but District 4/10 used a 12-3 run to start the second quarter and then a 13-4 run to head into the half 38-26. The D8 All-Stars pushed the score close in the third quarter with St. Mary’s Avery Sutton dropping nine points in the third to move the score to 55-52. In the end, District 8 moved ahead with a 13-4 run to prevail 77-67.

Andrew Folkerson from Guelph’s J.F. Ross was named the D4/D10 game MVP recording eight points in the loss.

In the junior game which went first, District 4/10 held a narrow 24-21 lead with District 8 tying the game at 42-42 the half. The D8 All-Stars would move ahead quickly in the third quarter and gradually build a lead to finish 86-74.

St. Benedict’s Zubair Seyed recorded 12 of his 16 points in the second half which earned him game MVP honours for District 8. St. Mary’s Adham Eleeda followed with 15 points.

Alex Durigon from Guelph’s St. James had a game high 23 points in the loss for D10 while Mengis Hiyabu of John F. Ross was named D10’s game MVP.
