Resurrection wins fifth straight District 8 field hockey title

WATERLOO, Ont. (October 23, 2013) – For the fifth straight season the Resurrection Phoenix are the toast of District 8 field hockey beating Monsignor Doyle Mustangs 7-0 to win the District 8 championship at St. David’s field.

Resurrection’s Katherine MacMillian scored the game winner for the Phoenix early in the first half while Tatum Dietrich and Danielle Buttinger added two goals apiece in the win. Olivia Kupherschmidt and Alexa Coorrada were the other scorers in the game.

Goaltender Kellee Snider registered her ninth shutout of the season.

The championship marks the eighth time the Phoenix have win the District 8 title in the last nine seasons.  It also is the 10th time Resurrection has held the crown since District 8 formed in 1990.

Both Resurrection and Monsignor Doyle will advance to the Central Western Ontario Championship (CWOSSA) which gets underway on Friday at Woodside Park in Kitchener.

Resurrection is the three time defending provincial champions and aiming looking to return to the event if they qualify at CWOSSA.

OFSAA will be held in Kitchener-Waterloo (co-hosted by District 8 and Resurrection) from Oct. 31 – Nov. 2 at various locations in the region.
