WATERLOO REGION (December 5, 2013) – Philip Tasedan of St. Mary’s HS earned his first District 8 MVP honour as the league announced its 2013-14 boys volleyball all-stars on Thursday.
Tasedan was named the top player in the league leading the Eagles to a perfect 10-0 regular season and a silver medal at the District 8 championship.
Paul Tasedan joined his brother on the senior first team along with teammate Alejandro Reinosa. Chris Watorowski claimed second team honours with the Eagles posting a total of four players on the senior all-star squad.
Woodland CHS and Rockway MC each managed three players apiece. Woodland, who captured the District 8 championship over St. Mary’s, had Shane Clarke, Kevin Frank earn first team honours while Nathan Katerberg captured a second team honour. Rockway’s Nathan Martin rounded out the first team while Quentin Richter and Lukas Winter were named to the second team.
John Elten, a right side from the St. Benedict Saints, and Sebastian Grasso from the Monsignor Doyle Mustangs rounded out the second team selections.
On the junior side, District 8 champion Woodland saw Erick Katerberg and Brendan Vandergeest earn first team honours while Rockway had Nathan Hebel and Zack Kehl named to the first team. St. David’s Mason Cumming and Evan Rodenburg of St. Benedict’s rounded out the first team.
Rockway placed two more players on the junior second team with Joel Gingerich and Jake Schapansky. Other second team players included St. David’s Florian Bruckeder and John McElroy along with Lucas Gear of St. Benedict and Spencer Carrick of Woodland.
