KITCHENER, Ont. (October 17, 2014) – With the regular season behind them, the St. Mary’s Eagles and St. David Celtics will tangle on Monday for the right to play in the District 8 field hockey championship and a berth into CWOSSA.
The two teams finished with identical 3-5-1 (7-pts) regular season records and will meet at Woodside Park at 3:00pm on Monday in the District 8 semifinal game The Resurrection Phoenix who finished with a perfect 9-0 record await the winner from that game and will play in the D8 championship set for next Friday (Oct. 24; 5:30pm at St. David CSS).
The semifinal winner will also receive a berth into the 2014 CWOSSA field hockey championship slated for October 29 & 30th at Woodside Park. Resurrection already claimed their berth into the CWOSSA championship by finishing first overall in play and receiving a bye into the championship by right of their first place finish.
The Eagles hold the edge in the season series against the Celtics with a 2-1 advantage. Both teams have traded 1-0 victories with St. Mary’s winning the Sept. 17th meeting and St. David taking last night’s game.
The decisive game which gave the Eagles the No. 2 seed in the playoffs was a 3-1 win back on Oct. 1st. That game saw Kailyn Rodrigues, Kyndra Miller and Christina Sine score for the Eagles while Jenna Berger responded for the Celtics.
