WATERLOO REGION (June 24, 2019) – St. Mary’s striker Alexa Cimermancic led the Eagles to an undefeated District 8 girls soccer season and for her efforts, was named the league’s most valuable player.

Cimermancic scored 11 goals in D8 play including a hat trick against Monsignor Doyle in the regular season, and another against Resurrection in the championship final.

While at the triple-A CWOSSA championships, Cimermancic scored another seven goals as the Eagles swept through the field winning all four games and collecting the gold medal.

Teammates Georgia Triantafilou, Lexi Kroeker and Tyanna Ventura were also named all-stars for St. Mary’s and had a lot to contribute to the championship season.

Triantafilou was dominant in goal recording seven shutouts in D8 play, and two more at CWOSSA. Kroeker scored seven goals in the regular season and six more at CWOSSA including a hat-trick in the gold final. Ventura was a leader in the midfield scoring her biggest goal of the season in St. Mary’s 2-1 win over St. David’s in the semi-final which proved to be the game winner.

Woodland’s Sydney Vander Hoef makes it three years in a row as a selection on the girls all-star team as she helped the Cavaliers to a second place regular season record which is the highest finish for Woodland in many years.

Vander Hoef would lead Woodland to a single-A CWOSSA gold medal and an OFSAA appearance that had them win their pool, and lose a close quarter-final match.

Defender Reese Mooney and her St. David’s squad were one goal away from an OFSAA appearance as they collected a double-A CWOSSA silver medal in a tough 1-0 loss to Bishop Macdonell.

Resurrection is represented by all-star selections Brooklyn Silveira on defence and Kayla Kraemer in the midfield.

Midfielder Avery Carr from Monsignor Doyle makes her first appearance as a D8 soccer all-star, and a pair of goalkeepers; St. Benedict’s Emma Croswell and Père-René-de-Galinée’s Alliyah Rowe, round out 2019 selections.
