WATERLOO REGION (October 8, 2015) – On Wednesday the final round of the District 8 Golf Championships were decided at Grey Silo Golf Course in Waterloo.
The girls team title was controlled by Monsignor Doyle who had impressive final rounds from Ciara Costibile who score the second low round of the day with an 88, and Kate Johnston who shot a 91.St. Mary’s girls team finished second and St. David’s finished third.
After the accumulating season scores were tabulated, Johnston would finish with a District 8 silver medal and Costibile a bronze.
The girls individual title would go to St. Mary’s Maddie Gehan who shot an 86 in her final round.
On the boys side, St. David’s imposed their will on the course accounting for five of the best eight scores on the day. They would capture the boys team championship with 80 points. Resurrection would finish is second with 65 and St. Benedict’s in third with 40 points.
The low round of the day went to Hunter Gebauer of St. David’s who shot a 72. Gebauer would finish with a D8 bronze, storming into contention after the first two rounds of the season.
The next best scores in the final rounds went to Connor Doucette and Jonathan Fuller-Hondt, from St. David’s and John Kerr of St. Benedict’s who all shot a three over par 74.
Kerr would take the league’s individual gold medal slightly outscoring Doucette who would take the silver.
In last week’s CWOSSA Championships, the St. David’s boys team finished second qualifying them for the OFSAA Championships taking place October 14-15 in Windsor.
Also representing District 8 at OFSAA is Monsignor Doyle’s Kate Johnston who finished sixth at CWOSSA.
