WATERLOO REGION (October 27, 2015) – On Monday the St. Mary’s junior boys soccer team was looking to complete their season in undefeated fashion against their challengers from St. David’s. The Eagles had already defeated the Celtics twice earlier in the season 7-1 and 6-1.

Early in the match St. Mary’s controlled most of the play, but it was St. David’s who had three early tries at goal, all coming off Aiden Hughes corner kicks.

Hughes would eventually score the game’s first goal for St. David’s off his left foot, well outside the 18 yard box.

In the second half St. Mary’s came out pressing. In the 62nd minute, St. Mary’s grade nine striker Samuel Kanneh found himself behind the Celtics defence with the ball and did not fail to capitalize, leveling the score at one goal each.

Four minutes later, St. Mary’s Ryan Amorim slipped through the defence and buried the go ahead goal.

With St. David’s pushing the ball ahead, the Eagles defence stood strong and the match finished in favour of St. Mary’s 2-1.

St. Mary’s will now advance to CWOSSA held in Guelph, October 29th and 30th. Their first two matches in pool play will be against WCSSAA’s runner up Sir John A. MacDonald and Guelph’s St. James Catholic High School.
