WATERLOO REGION (November 26, 2015) – Woodland Christian High School’s Brendan Vandergeest is named the District 8 senior boys volleyball most valuable player for the 2015-2016 season.
Vandergeest lead the Cavaliers to their second straight undefeated D8 season, third straight D8 Championship, tenth straight ‘A’ CWOSSA Championship, and later this week, will look for his second straight OFSAA title in as many years.
Joining Vandergeest with senior first team honours is Woodland’s middle hitter Eric Katerberg and libero Ian Timmerman. Thier teammate, setter Daniel Wolfert is recognized as a second team all-star.
District 8 finalists Rockway had two players named to the all-star squad with grade 12 setter Zach Kahl earning first team honours, while grade 11 power hitter Ben Langwieder grabbed second team status.
Resurrection who competed at the ‘AAA’ CWOSSA championships is represented on the first team by grade 11 setter Austin McKenna, and on the second team by grade 11 middle hitter Demar Holness.
Florian Bruckeder of St. David’s was also named to the senior first team and his teammate Elliot Curtis was named to the second team. St. Benedict’s also has one player on each all-star squad with Lucas Gear on the first team and Jonah Winkler on the second team.
St. Mary’s loan representative is grade 11 power hitter Norbert Ujvari on the senior second team.
The Junior all-stars are well represented by the undefeated Rockway Flames who captured their second straight junior volleyball title. First team honours went to setter James Carr-Pries, right side attacker Kean Snider and middle attacker James Torrance-Perks. Aaron Dyck received the second team nomination for Rockway.
Woodland, who finished with the silver medal in D8 play, is represented on the first team by grade nine attacker Sam Thomson. His teammates Jason Feenstra and Evan Holmes were named to the second team.
St. Mary’s Eric Martin and St. Benedict’s Noah Guerin rounded out the first team all-stars for junior volleyball. Also named to the second team is James Fleming (St. David’s), Matthew Boileau (Père-René-de-Galinée) and Adam Jabbour-Zalobka (Resurrection).
