WATERLOO REGION (June 9, 2016) – On Tuesday May 31st the boys’ slo-pitch semi-finals and finals were played at RIM Park in Waterloo and when the dust settled, it was St. Benedict’s who claimed the championship with a walk-off hit.
Before getting into how the final game played out, the semi-finals must be looked at, as teams played hard to make it to the big game. The two semi-finals were first place St. Benedict’s taking on fourth place Monsignor Doyle and second seeded Resurrection battling third seeded St. David’s. Benedict’s versus Doyle was an incredibly close with the Saints picking up the narrow victory over the Marauders 6-5. The other game wasn’t as close as the Phoenix pushed passed the Celtics 17-2.
With the championship game being set between the two top teams, there was a buzz in the air before the game even got started, and these powerhouses did not disappoint. The game was extremely tight with big runs being put up by both teams. In the end, it was a walk-off RBI base hit that propelled St. Benedict’s to glory as they won 14-13 in a thrilling final.
