WATERLOO REGION (June 13, 2016) – Krissia Vasquez of Resurrection, was given the girls MVP nod after leading her team to the District 8 championship. Lucas Cabral of St. Mary’s and Eric Katerberg of Woodland Christian were named co-MVPs of the boys division as both had great seasons, with Cabral leading his St. Mary’s Eagles to the championship.

Joining Vasquez are three of her teammates from Resurrection that helped bring home the championship; Emily Buttinger, McKenna Rice and Taylor Brophy.

Representing the St. Mary’s team that made it to the finals after finishing with the best regular season record were, Isabelle Mihail and Carly Randall.

The rest of the District 8 teams were represented by one athlete. From St. Benedict’s it was Emma Croswell, from Woodland Christian, Veronica Reyes, from the St. David Celtics, Abby Howard, representing Monsignor Doyle, Zoe Locis and from Père-René-de-Galinée Chevaliers, Alexandra Zonneveld.

For the boys All-Star team the selections were spread out, but it was the two teams that made it to the championship game that had the most players selected. As Cabral had two teammates join him on the All-Star team, Michael Halapir and Steve Molina, all three players helped their school win the championship.

The Saints, who went on a Cinderella story type run before losing in the finals were represented by two players, Sean Baron and Cyle Costa.

The rest of the selections were spread between all of the other teams, as the co-MVP, Katerberg, was the only member of Woodland selected. The rest of the selections included, Jonathan Pereira of Resurrection, Aaron Nava of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Alex Tutunjian of Père-René-de-Galinée. Representing the Celtics was John Winnett and on behalf of Marauders, Jamie Wilkinson.
