TRACK & FIELD: St. Benedict’s retains overall team title in track & field

WATERLOO REGION (May 15, 2017) – The Saints retained their over track & field championship from last year lead by the girls team who also repeated as combined girls champions.

Nana-Afia Agyeipah from St. Benedict’s set a record in the senior girls shot put with a toss of 9.92m while teammate Marcus Penalozza set records in the senior boys 100m and 200m races with times of 11.14s and 22.21s respectively. Penalozza also collected a divisional gold medal in the senior boys category.

Saints also had divisional gold medal performances from senior girls Sevanne Ghazarian and midget girls Alexandria Webb, who set a new midget girls javelin record of 34.46. Both of these were ties with Ghazarian splitting gold with St. David’s Alissa Melvin and Webb tied with Mylenne Habash of Père-René-de-Galinée.

Rockway’s Tessa Hedrick won the junior girls individual gold with wins in the 1500m, 80m hurdles and 300m hurdles.

St. Mary’s won the overall boys title and finished second overall lead by Cole Belkwell who smashed two records on the day. Belkwell set the senior discus record with a toss of 45.29m and the shot put record of 15.77m and finished with a divisional silver medal.

St. Mary’s Foster Malleck won triple gold in the junior boys division winning the 800m, 1500m and 3000m races.

Damien Nath won the boys midget division gold medal, and teammate Adam Exley set a new 100m hurdles record of 14.29s for Resurrection. The Phoenix junior boys sprint team also set a new 4x100m record with a time of 45.89s.

Woodland’s Nicole Hellinga set a new junior girls long jump record of 5.06m as she helped her girls team finish in third place.
