WATERLOO REGION (June 20, 2017) – For a second straight year, District 8’s senior boys soccer league will split its MVP award between two players. The recognition this season is given to Resurrection’s Jonathan Pereira and St. David’s Josh Alberto.
Alberto lead the Celtics to the District 8 title win along with a second consecutive AA CWOSSA title. While at OFSAA, St. David’s finished with a 2-1-1 pool play record which left them just short of a quarter-final spot.
St David’s also added midfielders John Winnett and Manolo Flamenco-Steiner, as well as University of Waterloo Football commit Justin Henderson as District 8 all-stars.
Pereira’s Resurrection Phoenix fell in a tightly played D8 championship to David’s, but did earn a berth to the AAA CWOSSA tournament. In that event, Resurrection would lose by a single goal to the eventual champion in their semi-final matchup.
Pereira is joined on the all-star team by his midfielder teammate Jordan Henriques.
Michael Plante from Père-René-de-Galinée was also named to the all-star team. His Chevaliers squad was ousted from the CWOSSA A championship semi-final in penalty kicks by the eventual tournament champion.
Defenders Lukas Cimermancic from St. Mary’s and Josh Fernandes from St. Benedict’s were named to the all-star squad, along with midfielders John Ditner from Monsignor Doyle and Daniel Wolfert from Woodland.
