WATERLOO REGION (December 9, 2019) – On Monday, District 8 named Mae Drost from Woodland Christian High School its senior girls basketball most valuable player.
Since transferring to Woodland in the Fall of 2018, Drost has helped the Cavaliers to two perfect regular seasons (21-0), two District 8 championships, two single-A CWOSSA championships, a fourth place finish at OFSAA in 2018 and most recently, an OFSAA silver medal.
While Mae Drost was the most valuable player of the D8 season, younger sister Kate Drost was the Cavaliers’ leading scorer averaging just under 15 points per game, which also earned her a first team all-star nod.
Grade 11 point guard Abby Trafford was named as a second team all-star selection for the Cavaliers.
Tanja Damjanovic, a grade 11 guard from Resurrection was named as a first team all-star after she help Resurrection get back to a plus .500 season. Teammate Delayne Scott was nominated to the second team.
St. Benedict’s Sarah Malnerich averaged 15.4 points on the season including a season-high 30 point performance on October 7th. Malnerich appeared on the first team all-star roster, while teammate Lara Johnson, a grade 10 guard was selected to the second team.
Grade 12 guard Monique Campbell rounds out first team selection representing the St. Mary’s Eagles.
Macy Peters from Rockway and Brooke Cameron from Monsignor Doyle were nominated as second team all-stars for senior girls basketball.
