WATERLOO REGION (April 9, 2024) – On Tuesday, District 8 announced that Aiden Goias from Monsignor Doyle was named the most valuable player in boys’ hockey. Goais, a grade 12 forward, helped the Mustangs to their second straight District 8 title, scoring 20 goals in just 13 games, and assisted on many more. 

“Aiden is an exceptional athlete and has been pivotal in Monsignor Doyle’s undefeated D8 season,” said Monsignor Doyle’s hockey coach Daniel Hewko. “His 200-foot game is a force to be reckoned with on the ice. Aiden consistently poses a threat to opposing teams, creating valuable opportunities for his own side. His remarkable defensive plays and clutch goals set him apart as a standout candidate for the MVP title. Beyond the rink, Aiden’s leadership extends to both the team and the school community. He leads by example, and his high academic average exemplifies the true spirit of a student-athlete.”

Goais’ linemate, Aidan Singh, also played a huge role in the Mustang’s success in District 8 and a postseason gold medal in the triple-A CWOSSA Championship. Singh, a grade 12 wing, was named a first team all-star scoring 13 goals in District 8 action and assisting on almost every goal Goais scored. Teammate Alex Robinson was credited as the top defenseman for the Mustangs, being named a second team all-star, tallying four goals and eight assists. 

St. Benedict finished second in the regular season standings but should have a bright outlook for next season with three Grade 11 players named as all-stars. Carter Whissel was named as a first team selection for the Saints scoring five goals. Defensemen Alex Hammer and Justin Vandervelde were named as second team all-stars. 

The lone goaltender named as a first team all-star was Resurrection’s Cole Henry who posted one shutout in a league dense in scoring. Henry is joined by teammate Raygan Schwindt on the second team. This is both players second time honoured as all-stars in 2023-2024 as both were also named as all-stars in football in the Fall. 

Grade 12 winger Evan Gruetzmacher was named a first-team all-star scoring six goals for St. Mary’s, while Eagles’ Brendan Watters was credited with a second team selection for his efforts on the blue line. 

St. David’s is represented by Grade 11 centre Ethan Kralik as a first team all-star, and Grade 12 goaltender Jake Wingrove on the second team.
