WATERLOO REGION (April 21, 2020) – District 8 announced on Tuesday that St. Mary’s Neron Angelo was voted the league’s most valuable player for the 2019-2020 senior basketball season.

The grade 12 guard led a balanced St. Mary’s offence, along with fellow first team all-star, grade 12 guard Aaron Brush, back to the top of District 8 basketball.

The Eagles played themselves into the CWOSSA semi-final where District 8 second team all-star Goaner Kang scored a team high 15 points, but lost a tough game to the eventual tournament Champions.

Last year’s league MVP Ben Mascarenhas and teammate Raf Llorin both repeated as first team all-stars in 2020 representing St. Benedict’s. Fellow Saint, grade 12 forward Aiden Whalen, was named to the second team.

The Celtics grade 12 forward Landon Atkinson was named as a first team all-star after leading St. David’s in scoring averaging 17 points per game.

Grade 12 forward James Fisher from Our Lady of Carmel was a standout all season. Fisher was named as a second team all-star, leading the league in scoring with more than 20 points per game.

A pair of grade 12 Phoenix, guard Bradley Stevens and forward Tyler Latendresse, round out second team all-star selections.
