WATERLOO REGION (June 24, 2024) – On Monday, District 8 announced their senior boys soccer all-stars, and topping the list as most valuable player was Even Antolcic from St. Mary’s High School.
Antolcic, a grade 12 centre-midfielder, scored six goals in District 8, helping the Eagles to a five win and one draw regular season and win their second senior boys soccer title in three years. St. Mary’s continued their winning play at triple-A CWOSSA where they won all four matches, finishing with a 16-1 goal differential and a gold medal. Antolcic scored one goal in each of the Eagles CWOSSA matches.
St. Mary’s, led by Antolcic and fellow grade 12 District 8 first team all-stars Chris Jackson, Jayden Ehiorobo and Ray Cho, finished atop their table at the OFSAA Championships, winning three matches and drawing one. They’d finish top eight in the province suffering their first loss of the season in the OFSAA quarter final.
From the striker position, Jackson scored six goals in District 8 play, while teammates Ehiorobo and Cho formed a defensive wall for the Eagles, only allowing seven goals in eight games.
Resurrection finished with the District 8 silver medal, and were represented by a pair of all-stars. Enrique Aguilar, a grade 12 centre-midfielder, and grade 12 defender Matteo Grant each found the back of the net three times in eight games.
Woodland’s Ethan Covach was the lone grade 10 to be named as a District 8 all-star. The striker scored four goals in eight games and helped lead the Cavaliers to a single-A CWOSSA championship where he scored in both the semi-final and championship matches.
Grade 11 goalkeeper, Dustin Ograda-Bratu from St. David, was recognized as a league all-star helping the Celtics advance to a double-A CWOSSA semi-final.
St. Benedict’s is represented by grade 11 centre-midfielder Damian Paul, and Monsignor Doyle named grade 11 defender Keanu Pereira to the squad. Lucas Benoni-Urquiza rounds out District 8 all-star selections from Père-René-de-Galinée.
