WATERLOO REGION (April 11, 2024) – On Thursday, District 8 announced that Resurrection’s Kevon Nath was named the senior boys basketball league’s most valuable player.

Nath, a Grade 12 guard, led a deeply talented Resurrection squad to its first District 8 senior boys basketball title in 13 years. His impact was also felt in Resurrection’s two pool play wins at CWOSSA beating Owen Sound by 12 and Bluevale by 11.

“Kevon has played on our senior team for the past three years and has always been very dedicated and determined to develop himself as a player and help his team succeed,” said Jeff Colley, Resurrection’s senior basketball coach. “He is a quiet leader with our team and his hard work ethic and high level of play helped others succeed. Kevon earning District 8 MVP is a testament of his years of hard work, and his Phoenix Basketball family is very proud of him for this accomplishment.”

Nath is joined on the all-star squad by fellow Phoenix; Grade 12 guards Lucian Lavric and Buk Reat, who were both named to the second team.

Monsignor Doyle’s first team all-stars, Josh Henry and George Nasir, made a splash in the District 8 playoffs, knocking off previously undefeated St. Mary’s in their semi-final matchup. Henry as a Grade 10, and Nasir as a Grade 11, regularly led the Mustangs in scoring in the 2023-24 season.

A first team all-star selection went to St. Mary’s Grade 12 point guard Evan Antolcic for helping the Eagles to a 12-win, undefeated regular season, while teammate Noah Blake was named to the second team.

Daniel Agbonaye is the first player on record from Woodland Christian to be named as a senior boys basketball first team all-star. The Grade 12 guard led the Cavaliers, scoring 20 or more points in seven games, and averaged 35.5 points per game in the single-A CWOSSA semi-final and final.

St. Benedict’s Grade 12 guard Abdulah Hajjo claimed a seat around the table as a second team all-star, along with St. David’s Grade 11 forward Kiyoon Kim.
