WATERLOO REGION (May 27, 2016) – With all the other district 8 championships wrapped up slo-pitch is the final sport that schools will compete to be crowned champions.

The semi-final matches are already set up for both the girls’ and boys’.

In the girls’ league top seeded St. David’s will face off against the fourth seeded Monsignor Doyle. The Celtics had a very strong season posting a league best 6-2 record well also leading the league in runs for (127) and runs against (49). Marauders should give them a good challenge, as Doyle has come in to the playoffs on a three-game winning streak, including a thrilling victory in their last game over St. David’s 13-12. Whatever happens, it should be a pretty intense game. The other semi-final for girls will be second place St. Mary’s versus third-place St. Benedict’s. Both teams had similar records with the edge going to St. Mary’s at 5-3 and Benedict’s sitting at 4-4. However the games they played against each other in the regular season were very close so it should make for a thrilling playoff matchup.

The boys’ semi-final matches will see the number one team in the league, St. Benedict’s battle with Monsignor Doyle who placed fourth in the league. St. Benedict’s was the strongest team this year posting an extraordinary record of 7-1 while leading the league in runs for (110). Although Monsignor Doyle only had one victory in their season they were highly competitive throughout and cannot be taken lightly. Second-place Resurrection will face third place St. David’s in the other semi-final. Resurrection also had a very strong season with a record of 5-1-2 and led the league in runs against (63). St. David’s had a 3-4-1 record, but in their last game of the season they tied Resurrection 12-12 in a wild game. It is clear that anything could happen in that semi-final.

Both the finals and semi-finals for each league are scheduled for May 31st with all the semi-finals starting at 1:30 PM, and the championship games starting at 3:15 PM.
