WATERLOO REGION (December 4, 2018) – Grade 11 midfielder Ella Murphy had a huge impact on St. Mary’s capturing the District 8 title for the first time in ten years, and as a result, she was awarded top individual honours in the league.
Murphy led the league with seven goals, scoring many when it mattered most. Murphy potted three goals in St. Mary’s semi-final win, and scored the game winning goal in the D8 Championship.
While at CWOSSA, Murphy would go on to score another five goals in four games including the only two goals in the 2-0 semi-final win, and the lone goal in the CWOSSA Championship match which advanced them to OFSAA.
While at OFSAA, Murphy and fellow District 8 all-stars Alexandra Bassanese, Ella Koller, Lauren Mader and Elyse Malleck and the Eagles would battle their way to a fourth place finish in the province.
Last year’s MVP Rachel Buttinger from Resurrection was named to the all-star team for the third straight year. Buttinger recently committed to the University of California Berkeley to play for the Golden Bears.
Buttinger is joined by teammate goalkeeper Janelle Ward who recorded two shutouts on the season, and grade 12 forward Hannah Cook.
The Celtics are represented on the D8 all-star squad by grade 12 midfielder Emma Heaney, and a pair of grade 10 players Sarah Bestic and Zoe Reuter.
