WATERLOO REGION (October 7, 2016) – On Thursday the final round of the District 8 Golf Championships were decided at Grey Silo Golf Course in Waterloo.
Alison Andrade of St. Benedict’s entered the final round with a 200 point lead on Quinn Doucette of St. David’s as they finished one-two respectively in the first two league events.
Doucette rallied in the final round posting an 85 while Andrade shot an 88. With points in the championship being worth more than twice the points of the league events, Doucette and Andrade each scored 1425 points, tying for gold.
Cassie Mann of St. David’s also had an impressive day as she captured bronze and helped the Celtics to the overall girls team title along with teammate Taylor Wetzel.
Doucette has also qualified for next week’s OFSAA provincial championship being held at Windsor’s Roseland Golf and Country Club on October 12th and 13th.
The District 8 boys individual title was being led by Hunter Gebauer from St. David’s who carried a 100 point lead over Aiden Brady (Resurrection) and Carter Mackey (Monsignor Doyle) who entered the day tied for second.
Gebauer finished the final round shooting a two under par, 69 to clinch the individual gold. Mackay shot a one under, 70 to finish with the silver, while Brady shot a 78 to capture the bronze.
Parker Casey of St. David’s shot a 71 in the final round which was the third lowest round of the day, helping the Celtics win the boys team title. Casey and Gebauer were joined by St. David’s teammates Ben Bauer, Tristan de Jong and Chen Meng.
