D8 GOLF: Two individual gold medals go to St. Benedict golfers

WATERLOO REGION (October 7, 2022) – On Thursday, the District 8 Boys and Girls Golf Championships were held at Conestoga Golf Club with both the defending champions from 2021 in the field. 

Heavily favoured Andreas Diogenous from St. Benedict did not disappoint as he posted a low score of 63 and collected the individual gold medal, while grade 11 Xavier Bernier from Père-René-de-Galinée posted an even par 70 to collect the silver medal for the second straight year. 

Monsignor Doyle’s Aidan Goias collected the bronze medal shooting a 75. With teammates Gabe Carswell, Jordan Lacson, Hunter Barnhardt and Mark Zeyen all shooting below 80, Goias and his Mustang teammates also captured the boys team gold medal.

In the girls championship, Marianne Linsangan from St. Benedict won the gold medal with a low score of 86, while defending champion Katelyn Xayavong from E.S. David-Saint-Jacque shot a 90 to claim the silver. Monsignor Doyle’s Maya Incitti won the bronze recording a 96.

Xayavong did not leave the event without a gold medal however, as she and teammate Valerie Klassen combined for lowest team score for E.S. David-Saint-Jacque.
