WATERLOO REGION (November 18, 2019) – On Saturday night in Meaford, the Woodland senior girls basketball team kept their two year, District 8 and CWOSSA, undefeated streak alive as they topped Walkerton 63-32, to head to single-A OFSAA for the second straight year.
Woodland earned a spot at single-A CWOSSA after edging past Resurrection 45-36 in the District 8 final last Friday night, led by Kate Drost who scored a game high 20 points.
The Cavaliers, led by the Drost sisters, will now advance to OFSAA held in Welland, November 21-23.
In the junior single-A CWOSSA basketball draw, Père-René-de-Galinée collected a silver medal after a hard fought 10 point loss to Walkerton.
The St. David’s junior girls basketball team also collected a silver medal at double-A CWOSSA, losing by two points in the final to Simcoe Composite School. Grace White led the Celtics with 15 points.
In volleyball, Woodland will again attend the single-A OFSAA after winning the CWOSAA final in a five set thriller against Walkerton (25-18, 25-17, 24-26, 21-25, 15-11). The Cavaliers won OFSAA gold in 2014 and will look to regain the crown as they head to Pain Court, November 21-23.
The Rockway junior boys also collected gold at CWOSSA in a straight-sets (25-21, 25-22) win over Walkerton.
The District 8 Champions, St. Benedict Saints senior boys volleyball team, took home the silver medal at CWOSSA as they lost in the championship to Waterloo Collegiate.
The senior boys football CWOSSA Championship will be decided Tuesday November 19th at the University of Guelph’s Alumni Stadium. At 5:00 PM the District 8 Champion St. David’s Celtics will take on the Champions from District 5, Assumption College School. Tuesday’s winner will advance to the OFSAA Independent Bowl at Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton on November 26th at 1:00 PM.
