WATERLOO REGION (October 25, 2016) – On Monday the St. Mary’s junior boys soccer team looked to complete their season in undefeated fashion against their challengers from St. David’s. The Eagles had already defeated the Celtics twice earlier in the season 3-1 and 6-5.

St. Mary’s started the game with the advantage with a strong wind at their back, but it was St. David’s Brett Spinger who tallied the first goal of the game in the 8th minute.

With time winding down in the first half, and St. Mary’s pressing, Arber Osdautaj took a cross into the box and volleyed it to the back of the net to knot up the score going into halftime.

In the second half, with the wind now at St. David’s back, Ryan Suljak lead a partial break and scored to reinstate the Celtics lead. Down the stretch, Celtic’s goalkeeper Ashton Barless made multiple exception saves to keep the lead intact.

With precious seconds ticking away, Osdautaj again volleyed in a cross from teammate Alban Osdautaj in the 86th minute to send the match into overtime.

In the 8th minute of overtime, Eagles’ grade nine striker, Daniel Amorim buried the game winning goal on a left foot strike giving St. Mary’s the title.

St. Mary’s will now advance to CWOSSA held in Guelph, October 27th and 28th where they will play the WCSSAA champion and District 10’s runner up in their pool play matches.
