WATERLOO REGION (December 19, 2024) – On Wednesday, Resurrection completed their championship defence, reclaiming all three team titles and winning eight individual division medals.
It was Resurrection’s junior division swimmers who had the greatest impact on the team’s success. Eva Zurakowsky and Noemie Delobel tied for gold in the junior girls’ division each earning 28 points. Zurakowsky won the 50M breaststroke and 100M individual medley, while Delobel won the 100M freestyle and 50M backstroke. Gracie Murray from St. Benedict finished with the junior girls’ bronze winning the 50M butterfly.
In the junior boys’ division, Resurrection’s Lucas Song recorded a perfect 30 points, collecting three first place finishes in the 50M and 100M freestyle, and the 50M butterfly. Teammate Eli Stover finished with the silver medal winning the 50M backstroke and 100M individual medley. Joseph Spital from Père-René-De-Galinée tied for the bronze medal with Resurrection’s Micah Stover.
Two swimmers from Père-René-De-Galinée recorded perfect scores in the senior girls, division, each winning three races and tying for gold. Alexandra Tole swept the 50M, 100M and 200M freestyle races, while teammate Kawtar Al-Aoussi won 50M backstroke, 50M butterfly and 100M individual medley. Grace Godkin from St. Mary’s High School won the senior girls’ bronze medal finishing second in three races.
Ethan Arnold from St. David won the gold in the senior boys’ division, winning the breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley races all in the 100M distance. Resurrection’s John Cooper finished in second winning the 200M freestyle and 100M backstroke, while teammate Owen Darcey took home the bronze winning the 50M breaststroke.
St. David’s Rodrigo Oviedo Euceda also recorded a perfect 30 points in the boys’ open division, winning the 50M and 100M freestyle and 100M individual medley. The silver went to St. Benedict’s Aidan D’Oliveira who won the 200M freestyle, while Adam Barabas from Resurrection won the bronze and the 100M butterfly.
Willow Coburn from David-Saint-Jacques and Hailey Murdoch split the gold medal in the girls’ open division, each winning two races. Coburn won the 100M backstroke and breaststroke, while Murdoch won the 50M freestyle and 100M individual medley. Geneva Silva from St. David won the 100M butterfly race and collected the bronze medal.
