WATERLOO REGION (October 16, 2024) – On Tuesday at Waterloo Tennis Club, Resurrection found themselves competing for nearly every gold medal. As a result of collecting points in every competitive event, the Phoenix won the boys’, girls’, and combined team championships.
Akshay Ramachandran won the gold medal for the second straight year in boys’ singles defeating St. Mary’s Javier Botaya. Dominik Kunalic finished third.
Last year’s silver medalists Ethan Morgan and Liam Peters from Resurrection upgraded to gold in 2024. After starting down a break 2-0, they stormed back to top the pair of Sam Sahadeo and Octavian Dragan from Père-René-de-Galinée who finished with the silver. Resurrection’s Tyler Morgan and Eli Stover finished third.
Theodora Draga from Père-René-de-Galinée collected her third gold medal in as many years in the girls’ singles event topping Resurrection’s Maia Lynch. Third place finish went to Monica Cyrek from Resurrection.
Père-René-de-Galinée also collected back-to-back gold in the mixed doubles event represented by Bella Renaud and Max Sahadeo. They topped the sibling pair of Graham and Daniel Dixon from St. David. St. David’s Gordon Fotton and Najun Wang finished third.
Elise Reed and Hannah Vanhartingsveldt from St. David repeated as gold medalists in 2024 topping Resurrection’s top pair of Twlyaa Dumas and Sara Nascimento who took the silver. Third place went to Sophia Morgan and Bailey Ewanchuk from Resurrection.
Qualifying participants will play in the CWOSSA Championships on either Friday October 18 or 25, 2024 at Headwaters Racquet Club in Orangeville.
