WATERLOO REGION (March 23, 2016) – On Wednesday, District 8 announced that Morgan Heinbuch-Filipowitsch was named the most valuable player for its inaugural girls’ hockey season.
The goaltender led her Phoenix squad to the second-best record in the D8 regular season, the first ever D8 girls hockey title, and then all the way to the CWOSSA finals. Joining Heinbuch-Filipowitsch on the first team all-stars was her teammate and the core member of the Resurrection defence Emily Buttinger.
In addition, grade 12’s Shawna Patchett of St. Mary’s and Clara Lochner of Monsignor Doyle were also given the honor. Rounding out the first team all-stars was grade nine goaltender Mikayla Schnarr of St. David’s.
Both forwards Kristen Straus and Lucy Condon of St. David’s were named second team all-stars. The remainder of the second team is comprised of grade 12 goaltender Alexa Fisher from St. Mary’s, grade 11 center Megan Fergusson from Resurrection and grade 11 defence Rose Nielson from Monsignor Doyle.
