WATERLOO REGION (June 26, 2024) – On Wednesday, District 8 announced the all-star teams for the boys’ and girls’ slo-pitch seasons.
Resurrection named three players to the boys’ all-star squad including grade 12 student-athletes Jackson Tjart at catcher and Matthew Van De Wynckel at pitcher, as well as grade 11 outfielder Brock Grein.
The Phoenix capped off an undefeated regular season with a third straight District 8 title in a 24-15 win over St. David.
The Celtics were also represented by three all-star selections after winning their silver medal. Grade 12 short stop Cade Setler and grade 12 first baseman Jack Martin helped captain the infield for St. David, while grade 9 rookie Matteo Orsini led the outfield.
After accomplishing a championship upset, climbing from fourth to first on the final day of District 8 play, Père-René-de-Galinée was credited with three all-star nominations in the girls’ league. Grade 12 short stop Isabelle McVicar, grade 11 first base Élise Joly, and grade 10 pitcher Michaela Suits were all recognized on the all-star squad.
St. Mary’s fell 8-7 to Père-René-de-Galinée in the District 8 Championship but would not face the same fate in the CWOSSA Championship. Led by District 8 all-star selections Lily Jones in centre field and Zoe Clark at first base, the Eagles flew to a CWOSSA gold, beating Norwell 13-12, and earning a bid to the OFSAA Festival.
