WATERLOO REGION (March 26, 2015) – Both Kristine Boileau of ES Père-René-de-Galinée and Kelsey Caza of Resurrection CSS were named co-most valuable players for District 8 girls volleyball.
Grade 12 middle Boileau led Père-René-de-Galinée to a D8 semi-final appearance against Caza’s undefeated Phoenix squad. Led by Caza, Resurrection would prevail over the Knights and continue their winning ways to a District 8 championship, CWOSSA quad-A championship and a quarterfinal appearance at OFSAA.
In addition to Caza, Resurrection added grade 12 left side attacker Cheyenne Omand, and grade 12 libero Maria Prudencio to the all-star first team. District 8 finalists and OFSAA single-A bronze medalists Marika Frank and Michaela Hellinga, both in grade 11, were also named as first team all-stars. Rounding out the senior first team is grade 11 right side attacker Sierra Dowling from St. David’s.
Grade 10 Maddy Antwi of Resurrection was named as a second team all-star joined by her teammates, grade 12 right side attacker Erika Howitt, and grade 11 left side attacker Cassy Toschkoff. Included in the second team is grade 11 setter Megan Dalley (St. David’s), grade 12 middle Maddi Kerr (St. Benedict’s) and grade 12 middle Hannah Klassen (Rockway).
The undefeated D8 junior girls volleyball champions St. Mary’s Eagles are represented well with three first team all-star nominations. Left side attackers Lorena Tasedan and Nicole Laslavic along with middle Jade Nowe all led the way for a dominant Eagles squad who also won the CWOSSA quad-A Championship.
St. David’s Rachel Southern and Marley Dowling were named to the junior first team after finishing as finalists in both the D8 Championship and the CWOSSA triple-A Championship. Grade 10 middles Jenna Banz (St. Benedict’s) and Jade Hickey (Resurrection) were also named first team all-stars for the 2014-15 season.
St. Benedict’s who was upset in the junior semi-final adds setter Maya Danis and left side attacker Monica Zeglan as members of the junior second team. Makenna Edissi (St. Mary’s), Maya Sokolowski (St. David’s), Kara Howitt (Resurrection) and Liliana Paroski (Père-René-de-Galinée) were also named as second team all-stars.
