WATERLOO REGION (October 25, 2017) – On Tuesday evening on a windy and rainy pitch, the undefeated St. Mary’s Eagles captured their fifth straight junior soccer title over Monsignor Doyle with a final score of 7-1.

The junior Eagles soccer program has carried their unbeaten D8 record for the last four consecutive seasons. Their last loss came in September 2013 when they dropped a 3-0 game to Resurrection. The following week they drew with St. benedict’s 1-1, and since then, won every D8 game.

In the first couple minutes of Tuesday’s final it looked like the tides were changing as Monsignor Doyle’s Dante Gordon potted a goal in the second minute of play to open up scoring.

Shortly after, with the rain coming down sideways, St. Mary’s Daniel Amoro would tie the match at one goal each.

In the 37th minute Hae Seong Jung would score to take the lead for the Eagles, followed by a goal from Erik Simicic who increased the lead to 3-1 going into half.

In the second frame St. Mary’s would score four more goals by Matthew Szeremeda, Liam Goodyear, David DeSousa and Mataj Palanchi to cap off a 7-1 win.

Both St. Mary’s and Monsignor Doyle will advance to CWOSSA Championships on Thursday October 26th at the University of Guelph. St. Mary’s will open against Cameron Heights at 10:30am while Monsignor Doyle takes on Huron Heights at the same time.
